What does it cost your workshop to drive yourself?
Whoever collects or returns a customer's car is missing from the workshop for that time and then has to get back. The calculator adds up both and sets our price next to it.
Pick-up and return are two rides.
What you bill a customer for one hour of work, excluding VAT.
Example with an hourly rate of CHF 172, the Swiss average according to the FIGAS-Branchenspiegel 2025. With your own rate the calculation is right for your garage.

The wage of your mechanic is not in the calculation: you pay it in both cases.
Assumption: your workshop is fully booked, so every hour away is an hour not billed. You can change this under “Adjust the assumptions”.
At 10 rides per month Mein Valet pays off from an hourly rate of CHF 60.
Adjust the assumptions
Our assumption: 60 minutes door to door, including handover, waiting and the way back.
The share of the time away that you would otherwise have billed. In an average garage it is about 71 %, according to trade figures.
How we calculate
The hours away are rides times minutes per ride, divided by 60. With a second car they count twice, because two people are on the road. Those hours times your hourly rate times the utilisation are the working time not billed. The way back is added. From that total we subtract the price of the cheapest Mein Valet offer for the same rides.
Hourly rate of CHF 172: according to the FIGAS-Branchenspiegel 2025, the average billed hourly rate in the Swiss car trade is CHF 172.30 excluding VAT (figures for 2024, a mix of the rates for customers, warranty and internal work). Depending on region and brand, your rate is higher or lower.
60 minutes per ride: our assumption for rides up to 10 km, door to door. We have not measured it, and you know your routes better.
100 % utilisation: our assumption for a fully booked workshop. In an average garage about 71 % of working time is billed, according to FIGAS (figures for 2021). If not every hour is billable at your garage, enter a lower value.
Way back: for the second car we count CHF 0.74 per kilometre (TCS cost per kilometre 2026, fixed and variable costs together) and 20 km per ride: 10 km there and 10 km back, the limit of our zone 1. The distance is an assumption, not a measurement.
Wage cost of CHF 43 per hour, only if someone without billable work drives: a gross wage of CHF 5’000 paid 13 times is CHF 65’000 per year. That lies between the minimum wages for car mechatronics technicians in the collective agreements of the cantons of Bern and Valais. Add 10.3 % employer contributions (old-age, disability and income compensation insurance 5.3 %, unemployment insurance 1.1 %, family allowance fund 1.9 %, accident insurance 1 % and daily sickness benefit insurance 1 %, the last two are assumptions) and CHF 1’927 for the pension fund: CHF 73’622 in total. Divided by 1’869 hours at work (42 hours per week, less 4 weeks of holiday, 9 public holidays and 8.5 days of absence) that is CHF 39. With a 10 % allowance for workwear, tools and training (assumption): CHF 43.

How the subscription works
You pay the subscription in advance for one month. Each ride counts as one ride of the subscription; there and back are two rides. The pick-up day is what counts. Unused rides expire at the end of the subscription month; with the Plus and Pro subscriptions some of them move to the next month if you renew. Zones and other surcharges are invoiced separately.
Example for rides from Thun, not to scale. The price depends on the road distance of your ride, wherever it starts.

The first ride is free. All prices apply to zone 1 and exclude VAT.
How does the monthly subscription work?
You pay the subscription in advance for one month and have a fixed number of rides in that month. There and back are two rides, and the pick-up day is what counts. Further rides in the same month are invoiced at the price of your subscription.
Who receives the photo report?
You and your customer receive the same PDF after every handover, with photos, mileage, fuel level, times and signature. This documents for both sides the condition in which the vehicle was taken over and handed back.
How is invoicing handled?
Garages receive one invoice per month as a Swiss QR-bill, listing all rides of the month. Prices exclude VAT.
